6th Grade English Language Arts (ELA)

Welcome to 6th grade ELA at Rock Springs Middle School!

I am a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and an alumna of Rock Springs. I attended RSMS as a middle school student and was thrilled to be able to student teach here at the school in 2016 and then begin working in the 6th grade that fall.

Theme in The Hunger Games
As we wrap up our 2nd 5-day week, I want to reflect on how we've been talking about theme in The Hunger Games.

Today we are reading Chapter 17, and as always, there is quite the cliff-hanger of an ending!

I have been incredibly impressed with how our students are creating strong, meaningful themes for a variety of genres of literature. The ones I believe they take the most pride in are some of the themes they were able to create for The Hunger Games by collaborating with others. I'd like to share some of those with you below.

  • "Sometimes life takes you in different places, with different people, but sometimes different is good."
  • "Determination guides a struggle to fulfillment."
  • "Never underestimate the skills of others."
  • "Having courage is sometimes your only hope."
  • "With meticulous thought and a persistent attitude, you can move mountains."
  • "If you don't risk anything, you won't get anywhere..."
  • "Being clever to devise a plan can lead to great success."
Awesome job, 6th grade! Keep it up!
