WHAT'S NEW!
 
Thursday, May 1st - Star Girl movie night from all-remaining until 5:15 p.m.  Come eat popcorn and chips and watch our March novel on the silver screen. Bring your own drink.
 
Tuesday, May 20th - End-of-Year Party during 1st period.  We will be discussing next year's book club activities, books, etc. Donuts and Juice will be provided.  Bring a snack or drink to share!
 
 
Quick Look: General Information
 
All members (and/or parents of members) need to join the book club Remind.  Text @rsmbooks to 81010 to stay up-to-date on all of our activities and book choices.
 
Please bring ideas for future books to each meeting (see monthly themes below).
 
Join Book Club: Permission slips can be found in the library or attached at the very bottom of this page and need to be returned to Mrs. Sprinkle before you attend your first meeting.  Dues can be paid in the SchoolCash app or by cash/check at your first meeting.  Enrollment is open through October.

Book club will meet the first Thursday of every month from 7:15-7:50 a.m. in the school library.  Each month, we will have a themed book discussion during club time on books chosen by students in the club.  Voting will only be open for a week after our meetings to give everyone time to read the book.

  • Sept. 5th - Restart by Gordon Korman (Student Favorite Book)
  • Oct. 3rd - Coraline by Neil Gaiman (Spooky)
  • Nov. 7th - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl (Roald Dahl Book)
  • Dec. 5th - A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (Holiday Spirit)
  • **Jan. 16th - Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief (Sci-Fi or Fantasy)
  • Feb. 6th - Book Tasting
  • Mar. 6th - Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (Romantic)
  • Apr. 10th - Hoops by Matt Tavares (Tennessee Volunteer Award, graphic novel)
  • May 1st - The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (Mystery Novel)

*Dues pay for club t-shirt, incidentals, and materials for club activities.  Field trips may require an extra charge. Dues can be paid by credit card on SchoolCash App or by cash or check made out to RSMS.

Book Club Activities
 
In addition to having book discussions, we also plan to complete book-related activities* throughout the year.  Possibilities include:
 
  • Smyrna Library Field Trip - Spring Event
  • Movie Night (based on a book) - several per year
  • Book Tasting: coming in February!
  • End-of-year Party: Dress as your favorite book character
  • Writing / Illustrating a Children's Book
  • Battle of the books (dependent on funding)
  • Book Games (kahoot, blookit, book-title Pictionary, etc)
  • Book Personality Quizzes
  • Author Event
  • Table Read
  • Fundraiser (maybe)
 
*Note: These are possibilities for activities based on interest and schedules.  We will update the page with information and send out Remind messages as we plan these activities.
