Coach Brian Turner has been a resident in Smyrna and Murfreesboro since he was 14. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies. Along his teaching career, he has learned what it takes to be a successful teacher and coach in both, middle and high school. Coach Turner started his career at Smyrna High School where he taught World Geography and World History. He was an assistant boy's basketball coach as well as head track and field and cross country coach. After 7 years at SHS, Coach Turner and his family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he taught at New Smyrna Beach High School. While there he taught American History and was the assistant boy's basketball coach as well as head track and field and cross country coach. He spent 3 wonderful years in Florida before he and his wife decided to come back home. Once back at home, he hired on at LaVergne Middle School where he taught American History and coached cross country and track and field for one year. Seeing a great opportunity to open a brand new school, he taught American History and started the boy's basketball program at Stewarts Creek Middle School. After 7 wonderful years at SCMS, Coach Turner saw an opportunity to accomplish one of his lifelong aspirations of being a head high school boy's basketball coach. Smyrna High School once again hired him as a World History teacher and the head boy's basketball coach. He spent 5 years at Smyrna High School before taking the job opportunity at Rock Springs Middle School where he is currently an Exploratory teacher and Athletic Director beginning his 26th year of teaching.
Coach Turner has been married to his wife, Tonya, for 26 years. She currently teaches at Wilson Elementary. He has 2 children. Ashley is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and lives in Murfreesboro. John is a student at Middle Tennessee State University where he plays football for the Blue Raiders and plans on getting a degree in Construction Industry Management.
