Grading Scales, Writing Rubrics, and Retake Policy

Classwork, FINAL Reading Tests, and FINAL Writing Tests= 60% of your grade

Reading Quizzes and Writing Tests= 40% of your grade
Students and Guardians,
Tests and quizzes help inform my instruction.  When a student puts in 100% of his or her effort and brain power into a test, I know how to best help him or her achieve his or her full potential by the end of the year.  Since that's my philosophy, I've developed a retake policy that will not hurt a student's gradebook if he or she bombs a test.
Below is a pdf that you can download that outlines all of my grading scales and my retake policy.  All retakes are due one week after a student receives his or her initial grade.  For example, if a student receives his or her grade on a Thursday, the retake is due by the NEXT Thursday.  I will not be reminding anybody to turn the retake into me, but if a student chooses to turn in a retake promptly, I promise to match that energy and regrade the test or quiz promptly.
All that to say, tests should be taken seriously and be taken using all of one's effort, but they shouldn't stress one out or break the gradebook.
Below is the test correction form:

If you have a printer: Print the top one out, fill it out, and bring it back to me.

If you don't have a printer: Open up with PowerPoint version, fill it out, and share it (or send it as an attachment) with me [email protected]

All test corrections are due the Thursday after the test was given.  No correction forms will be accepted past 7 days from the day the test was given (unless a parent e-mail is sent).
Below are the Tennessee Writing Rubrics for each of the three writing types (Narrative, Argument, and Informational) along with easy to understand versions written in 6th grade (i.e. actual human) language.  All writing tests will be graded against these rubrics.
The website for the non-profit organization, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), is a great resource to help you get better at reading.  There is a plethora of resources, like graphic organizers, that you can print out at home and pair with your favorite books.  I hope this helps!
