Challenging Programs

8th-grade students will need to make a choice about whether or not they would like to attend a high-level program offered at different schools in the district. These applications are normally due in January, so students should look at these options early so they do not miss the deadline.  Below you will find information and links to those program pages:

  • Blackman Collegiate Academy: This program is located at Blackman High School. Currently it is only open to students who are zoned for Blackman.
  • Cambridge Assessment International Program: This challenging program is located at Smyrna High School. Applications are accepted from students all over the district.
  • Central Magnet School: This school is designed to challenge high-performing students in all areas. Applications are accepted from students all over the district.
  • International Baccalaureate Program: This is a challenging program at Oakland High School. Students may start with the Middle Years Program in 9th grade or join the full IB program their junior year.  Applications are accepted from students all over the district.
  • Riverdale Honors College: This program is located at Riverdale High School.  Currently it is only open to students who are zoned for Riverdale.

*Note for LaVergne High School Students: the Early College at Motlow program will be available your junior year of high school.  It allows you to attend college full time while still earning your high school diploma.
Remind Code: @69ah3f8
  • NOTE: This is the same code as last year.  If you joined my class last year, you do not need to join again.
  • Text the code to 810-10 or download the Remind App on your phone.
  • Students: Please put your full name
  • Parents: Please include your child's name when prompted
  • Note: I will not approve anyone to join if I do not recognize the student's name from my class list.
Lesson Plans and Technology

Students will be using various technological applications this year.  If they plan on using their phones for schoolwork at home, there are several programs that would be helpful to download.  While many of these programs can also be accessed online, I recommend downloading the apps for ease of use.

  • Schoolology: includes all daily PowerPoints, instructions, assignments, examples, class notes, enrichment opportunities, and other miscellaneous materials.
    • Parents might gain access to Schoology at some point this year.
  • Students will also use their own page in Microsoft OneNote to turn in assignments for my class.
  • Direct links to all applications can be accessed by signing in to Clever.

Cell Phone Apps

I highly recommend downloading school-related applications on student phones for use at home.  The following applications are integral to my classroom:
  1. Schoology
  2. Microsoft OneNote
    • Microsoft Word (needed to access files)
    • Adobe Acrobat or other PDF reader (needed to access files)
  3. Amplify
These applications will also be helpful this year:
  1. Remind 101
  2. Skyward
  3. Microsoft PowerPoint
  4. Microsoft OneDrive
School Library

Students can visit the library during school hours or place a hold on a specific book through the online catalog.  Instructions are below:
